Pregnancy test accuracy: reliable or not?
Everything nowadays seems to be done and taken faster and easier including pregnancy tests. If before, you have to consult the doctor first to know whether you’re pregnant or not, it’s not the same story today. For busy people who can’t visit the doctor or don’t want to reveal it to anybody they know, purchasing a pregnancy test kit helps. Though easy and fast, is the pregnancy test accuracy reliable?
There are two kinds of pregnancy test: the urine test and the blood test. You can do the urine test either through Test Strips or Midstream Tests. For the Test Strips, you just have to dip the Strips in your urine and the change in color determines the result.
Some would prefer the blood test because the pregnancy test accuracy is higher. The blood test determines the hCG presence in the blood. If hCG is present, it means that the embryo is already attached to the uterus and the placenta starts to grow.
These tests have been noted for their accurate results. How could they not? They are not just some question-and-answer tests that could mislead you because of false thoughts and self-evaluation. Instead, they examine the body hormones itself. But how come there are people who get false results?
One of the reasons why some women get a positive result though not pregnant is because of the missed reaction time. Once you have your pregnancy test kit, there are instructions on the performance of the test. Indicated also is the length of time for completion and identification of results. In the urine test, five minutes is needed for the strips to process the urine. Once it is overdue, it may lead to a false positive result.
Another reason for false positive pregnancy test results is the drug that you take in. You might have supplements that contain hCG. These are usually injected for infertile women. If you have been injected with one, do not conduct the test just yet. Let it out of your body system first before performing the test.
Even if you do pregnancy tests by yourself, you are sure to get accurate results. You just have to follow the instructions indicated on the kit and analyze the medications you’re currently taking in. You can perform the test more than once but if you really want to be assured of the pregnancy test accuracy, consult the doctor.
